How to sync your Withings scale with Garmin Connect

Withings makes good scales. Garmin Connect tracks your fitness. They don't talk. Here's the fix.

Published · 5 min read

If you weigh in on a Withings scale and track training in Garmin Connect, you've already noticed: the weight you stepped on this morning isn't in your Garmin dashboard. There's no official integration. Garmin's own scale (the Index S2) talks to Garmin Connect; Withings talks to the Withings Health Mate app. Two ecosystems, neither one bridging to the other.

Why this is the way it is

Withings and Garmin both want their own apps to be the place you live. Neither is incentivised to make weighing in on the other vendor's hardware feel native. Withings publishes an OAuth API and Garmin does too — but only for trusted partners, not consumers. So the gap stays open.

What people try (and what actually works)

What ScaleBridge actually does

Setting it up (≈ 2 minutes)

  1. Sign up for ScaleBridge — free, no credit card.
  2. Click 'Connect Withings'. You'll be sent to Withings to approve OAuth access. We never see your password.
  3. Click 'Connect Garmin'. One-time email + password + 6-digit 2FA code. The session token is encrypted at rest with AES-256.
  4. Step on the scale. Press 'Sync now' on free tier, or upgrade and the next weigh-in flows automatically.

Free vs. Auto

Free is genuinely free, forever. Manual sync, full sync history, unlimited weigh-ins. Good if you weigh in roughly the same time each day and don't mind tapping a button.

Auto is $1.39/month or $12.39/year, with a 14-day free trial. Background sync runs every 15 minutes. Step on the scale, carry on, the data is there next time you open Garmin Connect.

Common questions

Do you store my Withings password?
No. Withings uses OAuth — you sign in on their site and approve us. We only get a refresh token, encrypted at rest.
Do you store my Garmin password?
No. We hold a session token issued by Garmin's mobile SSO, encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM. Your password is used only to obtain the token at connect time.
Will it work in Europe / under GDPR?
Yes. We process the minimum data needed (your email, two encrypted tokens, your weigh-ins). Analytics are opt-in. You can delete your account in one click and everything is gone within 24 hours.
What if Garmin breaks the integration?
Garmin's mobile auth flow is reverse-engineered (no public API). It has changed before and will again. We run a canary that catches breaks within hours and a fast-rollback playbook to ship a fix.
Can I sync historical weigh-ins?
We sync forward from the moment you connect. Historical backfill is a future feature — for now, you can press 'Sync now' to catch up the last 10 weigh-ins per press.

Ready to sync? Free, no credit card. Two minutes to set up. Cancel any time.
