Withings BodyScan 2 and Garmin Connect: what syncs, and what can't

The scale measures more than Garmin can hold, and Withings keeps its newest numbers to itself. Here's the honest field list.

Published · 6 min read

The Withings BodyScan 2 reached Europe in June 2026 at €499.95 and the US on 15 July at $599.95. Withings sells it on more than 60 biomarkers: a dedicated SpO2 sensor, a 6-lead ECG, 13-frequency bioimpedance spectroscopy, six-zone body composition, a cardiac responsiveness score. If you train with a Garmin watch, the question that matters is narrower. Which of those numbers actually land in Garmin Connect? Nine of them do, and which nine has almost nothing to do with the scale.

Two ceilings, and neither one is the hardware

The first ceiling is the Withings public API. It exposes the classic biomarkers a scale has produced for years: weight, body fat, muscle, bone, water, visceral fat, basal metabolic rate, metabolic age. The composite scores BodyScan 2 is marketed on (Heart Age, cardiac efficiency, Glucose Resilience, the Health Trajectory longevity score, the hypertension risk notification) are not in it. Withings lists an Intelligence API and a Scores API as upcoming rather than shipped, so no third-party service can read those numbers today, ScaleBridge included. The second ceiling is Garmin. The weight-data format Garmin Connect accepts carries weight, body fat, water, muscle, bone, BMI, a visceral fat rating, BMR and metabolic age. There is no field for a scale-measured SpO2, an ECG trace, pulse wave velocity, or per-limb data. Even with a perfect Withings API, those readings would have nowhere to go.

What ScaleBridge carries across

Setting it up (≈ 2 minutes)

  1. Sign up for ScaleBridge — free, no credit card.
  2. Click 'Connect Withings'. You'll be sent to Withings to approve OAuth access. We never see your password.
  3. Click 'Connect Garmin'. One-time email + password + 6-digit 2FA code. The session token is encrypted at rest with AES-256.
  4. Step on the scale and let the full measurement finish in Health Mate. Then press 'Sync now' on free tier, or upgrade and the next weigh-in flows automatically.

Free vs. Auto vs. Self-hosted

Free is genuinely free, forever. Manual sync, full sync history, unlimited weigh-ins, all nine fields. Good if you weigh in at roughly the same time each day and don't mind tapping a button.

Auto is $1.39/month or $12.39/year, with a 14-day free trial. Background sync runs every 15 minutes. Step off the scale, carry on, and the weigh-in is already in Garmin Connect when you next open it.

There is also a third option: the self-hosted edition — a small open-source app that runs the same sync engine on your own computer, free, with everything staying local. The code is on GitHub: github.com/ulfdalen/scalebridge-sync

Common questions

Does BodyScan 2 work with ScaleBridge today?
Yes. As far as the Withings API is concerned it's a standard Withings scale, so there is nothing to enable and nothing to wait for. Connect the account and the nine supported fields start forwarding on your next weigh-in.
Why don't Heart Age or Glucose Resilience sync?
Withings doesn't publish them. The public API covers the classic body-composition biomarkers; the newer composite scores sit behind an Intelligence API and a Scores API that Withings has announced but not released. Until those exist, no third-party service can read those values. Even then, Garmin's weight format has no field for most of them.
Will visceral fat show up in Garmin Connect?
Yes — we checked it on a real account. Visceral fat appears in its own column in Garmin Connect's weigh-ins view, and so does metabolic age. BMR is the exception: Garmin accepts the number but still doesn't display it anywhere.
Do I need a Withings+ subscription for this?
No. Everything we forward comes from the standard Withings API and isn't subscription-gated. Withings+ gates Health Trajectory and Glucose Resilience, and neither of those syncs anywhere regardless of what you pay.
Does this work with the older Body Scan or Body Comp?
Yes. Same API, same sync, same nine fields where the scale measures them. Body Scan (2023) already reported visceral fat, BMR and metabolic age, so this release adds them for those owners as well.
Is BodyScan 2 worth buying if my goal is Garmin?
Probably not on its own. The sensors that make it expensive are the ones Garmin can't store, and a cheaper Withings scale delivers the same nine fields to Garmin Connect. Buy it for what Health Mate does with the extra readings, not for what reaches your watch.
